Both pvc & rubber are good for different reasons, pvc is lighter but not always as strong, pvc may perform better with certain liquids & can be cheaper, rubber will last longer than pvc in Uv light & when dragged around, but is usually heavier.  Polyurethane products are especially used in highly abrasive applications.
